Wilton Manors: Embrace Diversity and Excitement
According to the 2010 US Census, Wilton Manors is a happier place than the Disney Tea Cups, being the “Second gayest City” in America. Second to only Provincetown, MA in the proportion (15%) of gay couples relative to the total population (couples as reported to the U.S. Census). But keep in mind, this is not a gay neighborhood, It’s a diverse community celebrated for its inclusivity that embraces and welcomes all.
The feel of this vibrant ‘niche’ island city is a blend of small-town and urban with a splash of glitter raining down. There’s an ever-growing arts and entertainment district lined with trendy restaurants and eateries, bars and nightclubs, intimate shops and then, ‘intimate’ shops. It is definitely progressive and there’s a little something for everyone. While the population is just shy of 13,000, you’ll find a steady stream of locals and tourists alike year-round making the population feel much larger.
The housing can be as varied as is its’ residence with intimate apartments and condos, cozy cottages, tri-story townhomes and sprawling waterfront homes. Much of the real estate was built in the 50’s and 60’s, with smaller footprints catering to tourists and snowbirds. But a lot has changed since then and there’s been plenty of new construction and revitalization across the city. Whatever you are looking for, it probably exists, but there is a price tag to go with it. Wilton Manors has been changing since the 90’s, and the desirable community its transformed in to has been a booming real estate market for a good portion of those last two decades.
Nature can also be enjoyed by both residence and tourists of Wilton Manors. Hagen Park, Richardson Historic Park and Nature Preserve, and Island City Park Preserve offer a variety of recreational opportunities. With playgrounds, volleyball and tennis courts, pickleball, walking and nature trails, Fitness Center, boat kayak and canoe launches, fishing piers and dog parks, it’s hard to imagine a nature lover with nothing to do.
Imagine, all this is contained in less than two square miles! This is only the tip of all that makes Wilton Manors a great place to live. Get more information about Wilton Manors here.
